Snug as a bug in a rug. We’ve been squeezing through this states dirt roads for the last month or so now. Oregon has been a blast and we’re thinking it’s time to move on and continue north. We’re spending our last few days here along the coast. Setting our eyes on this coast once again has been surreal at times. Yesterday we walked the same trails we did two years ago when Elliot was about a month old. Back when we hit the road for a test run to see if this kind of life was something we could see ourselves doing. Memories from our time in the Mammoth Lakes area. This gem was only a short hike from a popular lake and we had it all to ourselves for 99% of the time we spent there. We did a fair amount of hiking this day and realized that we get to experience a place more intimately when we do so on foot. Not only do you come across hidden gems like this but we’ve found that they are much less crowded since few want to put in the effort to get there. None of the above is revolutionary but repeating it serves as a great reminder to be present. My mantra for the last few weeks has been, “keep the world a big place”. I can see how the world can become small when you live how we currently are. Hiking has been a good way for us to keep our world big. I challenge you to walk somewhere this week.. whether it’s to work, the top of a mountain, or the mailbox.. keep your phone in your pocket, take your time and experience it. Lassen Volcanic National Park. I’d seen some photos of this place and hadn’t really heard much else about it. We rolled into the park at the beginning of the week and spent a few days hiking and swimming in the numerous amount of lakes available. The lakes were a nice surprise. I always think it’s strange to be hiking through forest and come across something totally out of place like these boiling pools of mud. I had a similar feeling hiking in short sands Oregon, beautiful green and then an amazing cove out of nowhere. We didn’t get many photos during our time here because I forgot to put a memory card in the camera 😅 However, we did get one of me in full dad mode. We’ve only been doing this full time gig for a short while and have already gotten to see so much. These are from yet another hike in the Tahoe area and only a 5 or so mile hike from where we were parked in my previous post. We’re currently hanging out in Redding while I get some work done and we kill some time before the firework show in town. We spent the last few days in Lassen Volcanic Nat’l. Park and I was happily surprised with what that had to offer. We’ll be crossing into Oregon within the next week and already have a few spots we’re looking forward to.
